LGBT Challenges in Latin America Throughout Latin America, there is a broad range of acceptance of LGBT civil rights. This panel explores LGBT challenges and victories in Latin America. More Michael Guest (Moderator) Michael Guest was America’s first openly gay, Senate-confirmed Ambassador (to Romania, 2001-04). Guest is aSenior Advisor to the Council for Global Equality, which works on behalf of LGBT human rights protections. More Javier Aguayo (Panelist)  Dr. Javier Aguayo is a Professor of Political Science atYork College. His areas of expertise include the government and politics of Latin America. Dr. Aguayo’s recent research includes the emergence of gay rights movements in South America. More Guillermo De Los Reyes (Panelist) Dr. Guillermo De Los Reyes is an Associate Professor of Latin American Cultures and Literatures and serves as Director for the LGBT Studies Minor at the University of Houston.He has written extensively on gender, sexuality and LGBT issues. More Dulce Reyes (Panelist) Dulce Reyes is a Senior International Program Officer at the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. Reyes helps provide support to social-justice based LGBTIQ organizations globally, especially in the Americas. More Shawn Schulenberg (Panelist)  Dr. Shawn Schulenberg is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Marshall University. His research is published in two books: “Same-Sex Marriage in the Americas” and “Same-Sex Relationship Recognition in Latin America.”More
