By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) AUG 11 | Australian Senatorial Candidate Wendy Francis clarified her remarks in a statement released on her website yesterday in which she wrote:
"I do not believe that upholding marriage or preventing children being raised in homosexual families is discrimination. We can’t govern Australia by legislation based on pleasing each group who wants things their way. I believe we must stand firm on principles and values that are the best for the good of the nation. Few Australians would – if given the choice – choose to forgo being raised with a mother and a father. If we would choose this for ourselves, how much more important is it that we make the same choices on behalf of children who cannot speak for themselves at birth?"
Francis also criticised bloggers& other media outlets for what she termed "sensational headlines" that according to her; "distorted the truth of both what was said and her actual views."
She also acknowledged that:  "the words used caused hurt and anguish for many people. For this I sincerely and unreservedly apologise."
Yesterday, a Lesbian mother lodged a discrimination complaint against Ms Francis with the Queensland's Anti-Discrimination Commission.
Kelly Pilgrim-Byrne from the Australian Coalition for Equality said the would-be politician's words felt like a personal attack on her family.  Pilgrim-Byrne said:
"I really want people like Wendy Francis in high-profile positions to think more carefully before they make outlandish statements that actually affect real people."

Well, gee willickers, Wendy, I sure do believe it is.

So the truth is what you say it is, then, is it?
