By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) Apr 1 | In the seemingly endless plethora of LGBT oriented news & political blogs and websites, there are a select few that stand head & shoulders above the rest in coverage, commentary, advocacy, and sticking to the principle ethics and reason for journalism. Among that outstanding group of sites is The Bilerico Project, whose quiet unassuming founder & Editor-In-Chief, Bil Browning, was honoured in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 28th, as he was presented with the Bob Craig Media Award at the 35th Annual LA Stonewall Democratic Club's Stoney Awards.
Bil was presented the award by LA Frontiers Magazine's Senior Editor for News, Karen Ocamb. Bil noted in his column upon his return to his Indianapolis, Indiana home that he shares with his life-partner & their four dogs and two cats;
"Karen's not just the News Editor for LA's Frontiers magazine, she's also a fellow Bilerico Project contributor. That made it all the more sweet as two Projectors stood on stage for the award instead of just me. After all, I accepted on behalf of the entire Bilerico family."
According to the president of The Stonewall Democratic Club, John Cleary:
"The Bob Craig Media Award is given to an openly gay individual who has through the power of media been an advocate for the shared goals of Stonewall Democratic Club.Bob Craig was the founder and publisher of Frontiers Magazine, established in 1982 and continuing to publish today. Frontiers is the magazine of record for the Los Angeles LGBT community and played an influential role in West Hollywood's successful effort to gain cityhood in 1984. Bob Craig was also noted for his philosophy that it was his part to report the news, not to be the news.Previous awardees have included Adelante Magazine, Tracy Sypert, Bill Rosendahl, and Karen Ocamb, spanning print and broadcast journalism. This year's honoree, Bil Browning, represents the first time the Bob Craig Media Award has been given for achievement in online/new media."
"That's what makes our site special. It's not about one person or viewpoint. Our site is meant to showcase multiple voices and perspectives. We don't always agree with each other, but we're all equal Bilerico family members. You don't always have to agree with what family members are doing or saying, but you love them nonetheless. It's the community we've built together that won the award; I was just lucky enough to get my name on the trophy."

Thank you so much, Brody, for a very kind article. I don't deserve any praise; the site sells itself. :) I'm very glad you're a member of our family too.
