Brody's Notes... University Of Texas Atheist Student Group: "Smut For Smut"

By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) Mar 3 | A University of Texas San Antonio Atheist group-Atheist Agenda has angered Christian groups on campus and is receiving negative reactions from national Christian groups as it launched its annual "Smut for Smut" campaign on the UTSA campus.
The Atheist Agenda founded in 2005 by a group of atheist and agnostic students & faculty from the University of Texas at San Antonio, is dedicated to the philosophy of free thought, as well as promoting aggressive activism against theology and theological institutions. The Agenda frequently holds meetings open to all who wish to learn, and is known for staging demonstrations most notably the "Smut for Smut" campaign in the San Antonio and Austin areas, to make their viewpoints known. Since its creation, the Atheist Agenda has grown from small gathering of students to a group of hundreds, with members at The University of Texas at Austin and University of Houston in addition to those at UTSA.
This year, organizers said a group of Christians amassed to protest the event, and one protester ripped a sign from someone's hands. But police kept a watchful gaze over students involved in heated debates, and did not report any violence.  A spokesman for UTSA said that the atheist group has the right to conduct the swap.
