Brody's Notes... March For Same-Sex Marriage In Sydney Australia

By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) Mar 16 | As elections approach in Australia, the Sydney Star Observer's Staff Writer Ani Lamont reports that the LGBT organisation, Community Action Against Homophobia, (CAAH) is gearing up-calling for a new march in Sydney to protest the recent defeat of a Gay Marriage Bill in Parliament last month and as one organiser stated, to send a clear message to the politicos.
“March 20 is about sending a clear message to our government that enough is enough,” CAAH co-convenor Ben Cooper said. “Either pass same-sex marriage or risk losing pink votes at the upcoming election.”
Before the annual Pride Mardi Gras in Sydney last month, the Gay Marriage Bill was rejected by 45 votes to five in the Australian Federal Senate, comprehensively defeating the bid to legalise Gay marriage in Australia,  although a third of the senators did not turn up for the vote and only the Green Party MP's voted to liberalise the marriage laws.
“This isn’t going to be solved by parliamentary means alone,” Cooper said. “That’s why we all need to get out on the streets to demand our rights. It’s not acceptable that in this day and age that a whole sub group of people in our community are denied such a basic civil right.”
Fellow CAAH co-convenor Cat Rose added;
“People are sick of being denied their basic human rights. I urge everyone to get out en masse and stand up for their rights now that it’s been demonstrated that our politicians won’t.”
The Star Observer's Lamont reports that the parade is scheduled to commence this Saturday, March 20th,  from the Sydney Town Hall at 1pm.
