By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) Sept 6 | I really didn't plan on writing a story about the ongoing silly flap over corporate parent company Unilever's decision to rename one of Ben & Jerry's flavors of Ice Cream, for only a month period, in honor of Vermont's legalisation of gay marriage. Ah but then the ensuing coverage and silliness was just too tempting to ignore. Ironically, the renamed brand will only be available in the depicted packaging in the State of Vermont. According to a spokesperson for the company, it would have taken 12 to 18 months to finalise a complete repackaging of the brand for distribution across the United States. Additionally, a Ben and Jerry's 'wedding truck' will cross Vermont, from which free Hubby Hubby will be handed out to the public.
Asked about the company's motive for the name change, Walt Freese, chief executive officer of Ben & Jerry's said: "At the core of Ben & Jerry's values we believe that social justice can and should be something that every human being is entitled to. From the very beginning of our 30-year history, we have supported equal rights for all people."

The American public just seems unable to just leave things alone, that in the grander scheme of life in this universe, really don't matter. Of course, to certain segments of the population, appearances are everything and if one is to fight the forces of evil...
The battle over renaming "Chubby Hubby" to "Hubby Hubby" is in keeping with the general ludicrous behavior one comes to expect from the far right or 'conservative' values lot of the American population. From my friend Tim Trent in Bracknell, UK, comes this contribution by way of a video, from a young girl, who describes herself as a "11 year old Conservative Christian" on her YouTube site. If one wonders where the Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh's of the world come from, here's your answer:

As she says, Brody, "Gay people have the right to marry a person of the opposite sex just as much as straight people do." She has deep insight.
And perhaps, one day, a gay man will marry her in an ironic act.
