Country Music Star Chely Wright's LIKEME Organisation Set To Open LGBTQ Center Saturday In Kansas City
Chely Wright
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI -- The non-profit LIKEME organisation founded by Country Music Star Chely Wright, announced that the grand opening for its Lighthouse LGBTQ community center in Kansas City, Missouri will be held at noon, Saturday, March 10th. The location of the new center at 3909 Main Street, in KCMO was chosen in part because Chely grew up about 40 miles away in Wellsville, Kansas, a very small town with a population under 2,000.
The Lighthouse will be the first in what the organisation's Board Of Directors and staff hope to be several LGBTQ Community Centers located in in the Midwest. A spokesperson for the LIKEME organisation said that the choice of Kansas City was because the needs for understanding and education for LGBTQ people are among the greatest in the nation in that section of the country.
In 2010, when Chely Wright published her memoir, “Like Me” to tell her coming-out story, she stepped up to support the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. Wright said that the most important part of coming out for her was to lend support to LGBTQ children and teens, and to counter the belief that gays are wicked and defective. Ms. Wright founded The LIKE ME® Organization, a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing education, assistance, and resources to LGBT teens, their families, and friends.
She was also the first major country music artist to come out as gay after former country artist K.D. Lang who came out in 1992. Wright was married to LGBT rights advocate Lauren Blitzer on August 20, 2011.
The LIKE ME® website www.likeme.org provides links to LGBT education and health resources. The website provides a message board for those who wish to post a question and receive a reply from the LGBT community.
The Kansas City LIKEME® Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope for the area’s lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender community. Located in the heart of Kansas City, the Lighthouse comes fully equipped with resources, staff, counselors and a sense of community and safety. Within the Lighthouse, the Community Center provides resources on such topics as the coming out process, gender identity, bullying and other issues the LGBT community faces. When you walk into the door of our 3909 Main Street, Kansas City, MO location you will feel like you are coming home. ~ LIKEME Organisation

On reading this article, I couldn't help wondering whether Ms Wright and her organization are going to be subjected to a Trademark Infringement suit, or not; after all is said and done, when it comes to "persons at risk services and shelters" the Salvation Army have a veritable Worldwide lock on the tradename "Lighthouse" and have done so from night on a century.

Someone within her ranks wasn't doing their job, or so it would appear.
