C. -- Minnesota Senator Al Franken told Thomas Minnery, Executive Director of Citizen Link, the political arm of Focus on the Family, during testimony yesterday regarding the newly introduced " Respect for Marriage Act," that he found Minnery's testimony less than credible. Minnery cited a 2010 federal study when he claimed that children raised by a male-female married couple are happier and healthier than children raised by other families.
Senator Franken disputed Minnery's testimony telling him; “I checked the study out. It doesn’t say what you said it does," which brought laughter from the spectators in the room.
Last night, MSNBC's The Last Word anchor Lawrence O'Donnell, interviewed Jennifer Chrisler, Executive Director of the Family Equality Council, regarding yesterday's hearing:
