Brody's Journal... Peter Tatchell On The Spot In Manchester: You Ask The Questions

The battle for human rights, democracy, global justice and freedom is far from over within lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.

With this in mind human rights activist Peter Tatchell, will be in central Manchester on Sunday 28 November 2010, and is inviting members of the public to question him on current political/human rights issues in Britain and across the globe.

Peter Tatchell will be a guest of the Edward Carpenter Community, who have invited him to talk about the subject of sexual citizenship. In over 40 years of campaigning, Peter Tatchell has covered a wide range of political issues from standing up to anti-democratic regimes to the right to live/express one’s sexuality without fear.

Peter Tatchell has issued the following challenge to ALL people regardless of their sexual orientation, but especially to LGBT groups around their concerns with sexual identity: "Lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) identities have been a defence against homo- and other phobias. We have had to defend our right to be LGBT and create our own community institutions to fill the void created by an uncaring, bigoted society. But when legal equality and social acceptance have been won, will there be any need for separate LGBT identities and community? If one sexuality is not deemed more valid than the other, then distinguishing between gay and straight disappears. The LGBT movement becomes redundant. Bravo!"
