By Rob Donaldson (San Diego, California) Apr 18 | Super conservative and very "Mormon" Cache Valley in Logan Utah is starting to see the big picture in truly loving their fellow man. This generation of young adults are going to stand in light and truth and not in the shadows of fear, historic religious lies and bigotry perpetrated by older generations.
The National Day of Silence was observed by 7 teachers and over 55 students at Sky View High School in Smithfield Utah. One "straight" young man walked into the art room at the end of the day, ripped off his tape and started to cry. He had been harassed, teased, looked at like he was a leper all day, and he cried because his life had been forever changed in experiencing what others go through every minute of their lives.
It is worth the fight to change just one person, who will never bully and hate because some else is different. Two students wrote poems expressing their feeling on this transforming experience and the group photo above taken before school started? The numbers grew considerably during the day.

Day of Silence by Dejay Smith
An endless tale of dreadful wrath
Endless pain from a world that laughs
Difference is defied
The world has died
They all just lie
To live another day
To share their pain
To say no to hate risking shame
To end this meaningless game
They're proud to be brave
To take part in DOS
Could save a life today
Dream of Silence by Channing Bates
To love in a world filled with hate
To be unique in a place where you're forced to be the same
To remain silent when every bone in your body tells you to scream
To have the courage stand up
To have the control to let my fists down
To love those who hate
To dream of silence
If only to break it
This is my struggle
This is my passion
To not follow nor lead
To hold hands side by side
To be equal
And hope
That it made a difference
No matter how small
That the silence will one day be broken
So one day people will learn
To love and be loved...
