By Brody Levesque | QUEBEC, CANADA -- Quebec's Minister of Justice, Jean-Marc Fournier, announced that the provincial government will allocate $7 million dollars for programs that fight discrimination and anti-gay bullying in Quebec. The Minister indicated that funds will be shared among public agencies and private sector public-service service organisations with special focus and emphasis on "demystifying gay people within the heterosexual community and ensuring they are treated fairly at school, work and society at large."
Monsieur Robert Laramée, CEO of the Fondation Émergence's Gay Line- which offers support to LGBTQ people and their families in difficulty- praised the Ministry's commitment and financial support which Laramée noted will assist the non-profit groups who work on behalf of LGBTQ people, young and old, throughout the province adding; “There is still an enormous amount of work to be done.”
The announcement by the Ministry states that organisations who wish to participate have until December 1st to apply for programme funding from the Bureau de lutte contre l’homophobie.
