Brody's Notes... Bachmann Responds To Anti-Gay Bullying Petition

Staff Reports
Michelle Bachmann (R-MN)
ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA -- The Minnesota Independent reports that Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann Monday responded to a petition delivered to her office here by Tammy Aaberg, the mother of Justin Aaberg, who took his own life in July of 2010 after prolonged anti-gay bullying directed at him. Aaberg was a student in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, which lies in Bachmann's congressional district.
Bachmann has been taken to task by LGBTQ equality rights and anti-gay bullying advocates for her lack of response to the suicide cluster in the district, as well as the fact that the schools are under federal investigation as a result of policies that some officials and teachers in Minnesota have deemed harmful to LGBTQ students. During a campaign stop last month in California- Bachmann who is a GOP presidential hopeful- in response to a question about anti-gay bullying in her district, shrugged off the question saying that bullying is not a “federal issue.”
The petition was created through Credo Action, part of Working Assets which is a for-profit phone and credit company that donates to progressive causes, and garnered more than 140,000 signatures.
The Minnesota Independent published Bachmann's response to the petition:
Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns about anti-gay bullying and harassment via the CREDO Action petition. As your Representative for the 6th district of Minnesota, your views are very important to me and I appreciate hearing from you.
Unquestionably, bullying is wrong. I agree that no student should feel belittled or threatened by peers at school. All human lives have undeniable value, and I urge parents, teachers, and students alike to champion this fact in our community and to address instances of bullying promptly and firmly when they occur.
As one of the members of the U.S. House of Representatives representing the Anoka-Hennepin School District, I am very aware and concerned about the cases of bullying and suicides that have occurred there. In response, my office has been in communication with both school officials and with individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide.
We all desire to see bullying brought to an end and the best interests of students served in our schools. Again, thank you for your commitment on this matter. I assure you I will continue to be a listening ear for any constituent wishing to express his or her view on this or any other issue.
Sincerely,
Michele Bachmann
Member of Congress

How lovely of her. She is listening. I feel so much better now I know she is listening. Hey, everyone, the mad bimbette is listening!

That response to the petition was too considered, coherent and literate for her to have written.

Oh I don't know, Des. It was all of those, but it was, like her, entirely useless.

Bachman had previously not been in any sort of compassionate contact with Tammy Aaberg; that is definitely known; the others it's doubtful.

This woman is a deceitful, shameless puff of smoke; nothing more, and nothing less.

Obviously neither she nor her staff don't know English sentence structure either. Quote, "As your Representative for the 6th district of Minnesota, your views are very important to me and I appreciate hearing from you." Bachman has effectively declared Tammy Aaberg as being the Representative.

As for the intent of the statement, it is obviously to try to appease those who are the most upset, but the statement doesn't hold any sincerity at all.

Damn but I hate it when I post a comment with an error in it, and can't correct it. Grrr. The "don't" above should be removed.
