Brody's Notes... No Response To 200,000 E-mails Speaking Out Against Sally Kern's Homophobic Remarks

By Brody Levesque | WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) announced Thursday that its members and supporters have sent 200,000 emails to Oklahoma Republican Governor Mary Fallin, along with the state's legislative leaders, calling on her and the leadership to denounce Republican State Representative Sally Kern’s most recent homophobic remarks. Kern, whose vitriol against the LGBTQ community has generated considerable controversy in the past- In 2008 saying that gays were more dangerous than terrorists- reiterated similar statements again last month on the notoriously anti-gay Peter LaBarbera's paid radio programme.
"[E]very day our young people, adults too, but especially our young people, are bombarded at school, in movies, in music, on TV, in the mall, in magazines, they’re bombarded with ‘homosexuality is normal and natural.’ It’s something they have to deal with every day. Fortunately we don’t have to deal with a terrorist attack every day, and that’s what I mean."
Calls to Governor Fallin, Speaker of the Oklahoma House Kris Steele, and Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman by LGBTQNation were not returned nor have these officials publicly commented on Kern's latest attacks on the LGBTQ community.
HRC president HRC President Joe Solmonese said:
“The silence of Governor Fallin and Oklahoma’s legislative leadership is deafening, particularly given the number of people we now see calling on them to speak out. Enough is enough. Sally Kern has a long track record of outrageously slandering LGBT Americans, ethnic and religious groups, and women. It’s time for Oklahoma’s leaders to stand up to her bigotry and hold her accountable for her remarks.”
