By Joanne Dunning | Manchester, England -- The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF) are holding an event to raise awareness of the importance of faith for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGB&T) people.
At the event a new resource guide put together by the LGF called ‘Faithbook’ will be launched.
“The aim of ‘Faithbook’ is to reassure lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people that whatever your personal beliefs, there will be others who can support you both within your faith and in your community,” says Andrew Gilliver Communications Manager of The Lesbian & Gay Foundation.
The event will also be a chance to discuss the idea of taking forward a social/support group for LGB&T people who want to talk about their faith, and create a peer network to overcome the boundaries of exclusion (either real or perceived) that people may experience, either within faith communities around sexual orientation and gender identity, or within the LGB&T community around matters of faith and belief.
Stacie Cohen who originally had the idea to hold such an event in Manchester to bring together people of all faiths, says: “Although all religions and faiths are different, the feelings, issues and the journey that people who are LGB or T have to go on, all have to be equally faced. By having a space to meet others, whatever your faith or belief, to discuss these issues will be a place where people can find peace within themselves and feel comfortable being everything that they are."
