Editorial: The Yanks Have Lost The Bloody Plot

I watched it, my staff watched it, my colleagues have watched it, and for the most part all of us have reached the same consensus of opinion that the Yanks have finally lost the bloody plot. 

Why? Let's examine the atmosphere of these past few years after the events of September 11th, 2001, but especially after Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States.

The political atmosphere in this country has been hostile for a number of years as both the Democrats and the Republicans engaged in ever increasingly bitter contests of one man upmanship particularly in regards to cultural or societal issues of immigration, womens' rights, LGBTQ rights, and religious differences.

That atmosphere has now gone from hostile to absolutely poisonous.

The blame, while it could be shared, quite frankly needs to be laid at the feet of the Republican Party who have pandered to the religious zealots & bigots who leave no room in the public discourse for compromise or compassion. Now with the rise of the Tea Party, it seems that the GOP's quiet acquiesce to the far right fringe's oft times uncompromising positions has turned into a wholesale surrender and complete loss of integrity.

To wit:

• The war on same-sex equality rights.
• The War on women's choice & rights.
• The war on Islam.

and finally

• The reemergence of barely disguised racist attitudes that would make the old time sheet wearing Jim Crow types proud.

Oh, and they REALLY do hate the president. Seriously, if he was white I seriously doubt they'd be jumping on the birther conspiracy/he was raised in Kenya theories and proclaiming them to be the "gospel" truth... which reminds me, add he's actually a "fake" Christian to that list.

What I and a few others are beginning to wonder is when they are going to forget verbal contests and simply move to their alleged "2nd Amendment remedies" and start shooting.

Please watch the following video and then reflect on just how badly this once great nation has slipped into a dangerous rut of rhetoric that may lead to untold violence.

Hate comes to Orange County

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA -- The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today released a video of a rally organized by anti-Muslim bigots to protest a February fundraising event held by an American Muslim relief group for relief work and charity in the U.S.
A few hundred protesters showed up to the rally, which was sponsored by groups such as: "We Surround Them OC 912" (a local Tea Party group), Rabbi David Eliezrie of Chabad - Yorba Linda, North Orange County Conservative Coalition, ACT! for America, and Pamela Geller (whose group "Stop the Islamization of America" has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center).
Elected officials Congressmen Ed Royce and Gary Miller, and Villa Park Councilwoman Deborah Pauly also attended and spoke at the protest rally.
The event -- held at Yorba Linda Community Center, a facility that has been frequented by Muslim families and businesses over the years -- first became a target of anti-Muslim bigots over two of the fundraiser's speakers, who were to speak on the importance of charity in Islam. Initial attempts of some groups to have the Yorba Linda Community Center and the Yorba Linda City Council cancel the fundraising event failed, followed by the protest.
