Brody's Notes... North Carolina Politician's Latest Claim: Gays Prey On Young Men At YMCA’s

Bill James (R-Charlotte)  via SheWired.com
By Editors LGBTQNation (Phoenix, Arizona) DEC 31 | Mecklenberg County Commissioner Bill James, who recently described gays as “sexual predators,” now claims that gays prey on young men at YMCA’s, according to a new post on his website.
In an article titled “Red Phone” (PDF here), James writes that all across America, there are procedures in place to “prevent homosexuals from preying on men at the Y(MCA),” and since “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” has been repealed, Congress must develop rules “to protect young heterosexual military members from predatory behavior” by gays.
“Like a whore in church, homosexuals have been on their best behavior because that behavior was illegal and they didn’t want to risk being kicked out …
“I can hear liberals screaming into their monitors: ‘They aren’t predators!’
“I disagree. Go down to the Dowd YMCA and let them show you the ‘red phone’. They had to put it in to stop homosexuals from ogling straight business men in the showers and changing rooms.”
James also claims that Mecklenberg County spent “big bucks” redesigning a local park so that it would not attract homosexuals.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that James referred to gays as “sexual predators” in an e-mail to fellow Mecklenburg County Commissioners when colleague Jennifer Roberts requested commissioners sign a “thank you” note to the state’s Washington D.C. congressional delegation who had voted to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
James writes that repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was a political move by left-wing America and “radical homosexuals,” and that “young kids who enlist will become sexual targets in the new US Military.”
He cites an unattributed letter he received that claims, “I am afraid that from now on, in the military, I will be punished for speaking up now that immoral conduct is condoned.”

"claims that gays prey on young men at YMCA’s'

Tongue in cheek: I wish. I spent countless hours at the YMCA and never got hit on once; not once, you hear me! Talk about a depressing state of affairs.

Seriously though, there may be a few gay men who ogle straight men, but that's hardly predatory and hardly a universal thing. Of course there may be predators out there, but there are just as many trying to lure women, probably a lot more, although there are legitimate sites hetero men can go to seek company.

As long as online dating sites like eHarmony (I specifically named them because they've won that right after a court fight) are allowed to refuse gays who are looking for romantic relationships there will be a need for other ways to seek someone, and the YMCA is just as good a place as any other place where men are likely to be found.
