By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) SEPT 9 | A radical fundamentalist evangelical pastor's plan to burn hundreds of Q'rans, the holy text of Islam, in an alleged memorial tribute to the victims of the attacks of September 11th, 2001, and as the pastor, Terry Jones, has also termed a message to radical Islamic elements that 'Sharia Law' will not be tolerated in the United States, has drawn the ire of the President of the United States.ABCNews Political Director and host of Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos during an early morning interview on Wednesday listened carefully as the President told him in response to George's question about the issue:
"If he's listening, [Jones] I just hope he understands that what he's proposing to do is completely contrary to our values … this country has been built on the notions of religious freedom and religious tolerance," Obama said. "As a very practical matter, as commander (in) chief of the armed forces of the United States, I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women in uniform who are in Iraq, who are in Afghanistan."You can watch George's complete interview with President Obama here:[ Link ]
I've covered this charlatan of a pastor before when, during an election cycle this past April in his hometown of Gainesville, Florida, he and his 40 member so-called 'congregation' were vehemently opposed to the election of a long term city councilman, Craig Lowe, to the office of mayor.
[ Which, the Mayor narrowly won in a hotly contested race. ]
The Dove World Outreach Church, [ The website is offline currently, most likely due to either lots of web traffic or, well, it could have been hacked by seriously pissed of Islamic types eh?] didn't like now Mayor Lowe because he is Gay, they even went so far as to post signs that read "No Homo Mayor." The 'church' also posted YouTube videos regarding the mayoral campaign that were for the most part vile and filed with 'Christian Love' which of course just translates to first amendment protected hate speech. In fact one of the worst of those videos was produced and hosted by the 'associate pastor' of the Dove Church, Wayne Sapp who came off as a clueless homophone.
Here's the thing, if it was just another fringe freak group which for some odd reason the U. S. seriously seems to have an explosion in prominence of these types, I guess I'd just sigh and write them off as lunatics.
I can't this time, because the truth is that this thoughtless and naked open display of hatered and bigotry is going to get young Americans serving in the Armed Forces overseas killed. Not to mention to paint a big huge target on Americans globally who could possibly fall victim to Islamic extremist elements out to avenge this act.
This idiot Jones and his sidekick tell us in the press corps and by extension the public that they are praying??? Screw that you idiots! When the Commander of U.S. Forces in the theatre of war, General David Petraeus, tells you that your actions are going to kill servicemembers serving in the war zone followed by the Secretary of Defence and then ultimately, the leader of the free world for crying out loud... what part of you are harming U. S. interests do you not understand?
If anybody wondered just how harmful even Christianity can be as compared to Islam in terms of theocratic extremism, especially in terms of cultural issues, then a person seriously does not have to look any further than this wonderful example of religious claptrap run amok.

If this burning happens, and I really hope it does not, there is only one action that I can think of that MIGHT ameliorate the situation, and that is publicly, with complete agreement of the media, burning Holy Bibles immediately next to this idiot, making sure that everyone only sees that BOTH are being burned.
There is of course another possibility, which is that Homeland Security steps in and simple arrests this run amok so-called holy man for treasonous actions directly threatening American military personnel. Don't let him do anything after lighting that match, and stop him before he goes any further.
My sister says that "natural consequence" is the best lesson, so just having the fire department there to instantly douse them all with high pressure water or foam might be a possible approach. After all, a fire needs to be put out.
I hear that he's stopped his plans; good thing.
Interestingly, a local TV station interviewed someone who specializes in Mid East affairs and I learned that the Koran is actually closer to being like an effigy of Jesus in its position in the Muslim religion and much more important to them than the Bible is to Christians.
