By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) Apr 15 | Joe Jervis posted this piece at his website, Joe.My.God earlier today and after reading it and some heated discussions with professional colleagues about its contents and its accompanying video, I am going to repost Joe's article here on my webpage for my readership.
There are times that members of the global press corps in their zeal to chase down stories in this highly competitive business, overstep the boundaries of civilised behaviours and cross over into behaviours that are frankly despicable and echo the questionable practises of the parasitic paparazzi. I find that I am repulsed by the actions of this particular news cameraman as his behaviour is completely aberrant to my personally held sense of the standards, ethics, and good practises that journalists ought to adhere to.
Cameraman Incident Roils Australia
JMG- An Australian network television reporter chased down a father and son leaving a courthouse appearance, refusing their repeated requests to leave them alone and eventually calling one of them a "fucking terrorist." Because they were Muslim, of course. The incident has caused a national outcry about journalistic ethics. The son had been accused of inciting a bar fight, but he was later cleared of the charges. Below, Australia's somber Media Watch program covers the story. Wait for the son's meltdown when he finally confronts the cameraman, who has since been fired. Outraged Aussie commentators weigh in at the above link.
