By Brody Levesque (Washington DC) Jan 26 | The Ultra-Right movement in the United States never ceases to amaze me with the level of intolerance and ignorance that is put on display in their political campaigns. Yesterday, I read another sterling example of this in an article by Troy Reimink of The Grand Rapids Press on the paper's blog MLive.com:
"Secretary of State candidate Paul Scott campaigns against changes on ID for transgender individuals.
Paul Scott seems prepared to court controversy in his candidacy for Michigan Secretary of State.
In an announcement letter posted last week, Scott, a Republican state representative from Grand Blanc, [ 51st District ] includes this double-take-worthy bullet point:
"I will make it a priority to ensure transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver's license in any circumstance."
He's referring to a change in policy that dates to 2005, when Transgender Michigan and the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan's LGBT Project successfully lobbied the Secretary of State's office to allow individuals to change the gender markers on driver's licenses and state ID cards."

And because I apparently possess sadomasochistic tendencies I googled Scott and looked up his website where, gee-no shock, I found this as well:Hmm, apparently this man has a one track mind...'Driver's Licences!' My question would be what exactly would serve the good people of Michigan better? A Transphobic who has a fixation with whose entitled to a Michigan Driver's Licence or a politician that is way more concerned with say attracting corporations to come do business in the state that currently has unemployment at nearly 16%?" I will stand strong against illegal immigration by verifying a valid social security number before issuing anyone a driver’s license, an issue Representative Dave Agema has been pushing for 3 years.
· I will actively push to encrypt the traceable RFID chip in the enhanced driver’s license.
· I will make it a priority to ensure transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver’s license in any circumstance.
· I will work tirelessly to repeal the over $100 million dollar tax increase on drivers in the form of driver responsibility fees."
The other part of this is the reality that ANY politician that makes the kind of statements that Scott does is probably way too narrow minded on a host of other issues to be entrusted the responsibility of the third most important position in the state government.
Then there's this salient point, Why does it matter as to what a Transgendered person denotes as 'gender preference' on his or her licence? Is that really going to cause the collapse of civilisation in Michigan as we know it?
This gentlemen is the very definition of an ignorant & biased ultra-rightist.

BRODY! A little tolerance here, please! I am a modern Republican, and I don't believe any of this crap. GRRRRR!
In all fairness, maybe you could post an Anatomy of the Modern Democratic Brain, with things like:
* Spend as much taxpayer money as you possibly can - especially on people who prefer not to work
* Invite terrorists to come sing "Kumbaya" and hold hands
* Make it illegal to earn more than $10,000 a year because all rich people are evil
* Make fun of anyone who believes in God
