Here's the following from a new website and movement whose sole aim is apparently boycotting Houston, Texas because, *shudder* the mayor is a lesbian. Gee the end of the world as we know it:
"Do you want a Texas version of San Francisco? Neither do we! Do you want Texas to be the abortion capital of America? Neither do we! Houston has elected an openly homosexual mayor and built the largest abortion clinic in the United States and you can do something about it! While you may or may not be a resident of Houston and eligible to vote for mayor..."
Then of course it finishes off with Texas is a Christian State & "Don't Mess with Texas or Texas Children." Why is it that the Christian right is so stuck on LGBT folk being nothing more than child molesters?
Now if that above statement wasn't enough to make you nauseous this mission statement ought to:
"Our mission is to impose economic sanctions on the city of Houston, Texas for voting in an openly homosexual mayor and for allowing the largest Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in the United States to be opened there. Both of these actions are an abomination in the eyes of God and should be boldly confronted by Christians seeking to preserve life and decency in the state of Texas. We have the absolute right to spend our money as we see fit. We also have the absolute right to withhold our money from things that offend God. In fact, we have an obligation to be good stewards of our money so it is not spent on evil."
Decency? I cringe and get so angry when I hear that word being flung around as though LGBT folk have none whatsoever. Decency eh? Uh huh, like the recent efforts by Evangelical American Christian Leaders to push through the "Kill The Gays" bill in Uganda was decent. Oh, or the statement made by televangelist Reverend Pat Robertson claiming that the death and destruction in Haiti was the fault of the Haitians themselves based on a questionable fairy tale alleging a 17th century deal with the devil? THAT was Christian and decent?
This is the moron that is responsible for this latest outrage, Pastor David Grisham, and according to the Houston Press newspaper article:
Wonderful right? I am so disgusted...."The main reason for the boycott is simply because it's about the only way that people in the rest of the state of Texas -- outside of Houston -- can actually take a stand for righteousness in the city of Houston," Grisham tells Hair Balls. "Now, Jesus said that we were to preach the gospel through all the world, and that includes Houston, Texas." This isn't Grisham's first anti-gay rodeo; he's also behind www.repentamarillo.com, which also deals with the sin of gay people being all gay and doing really gay things. His group, a chapter of RAVEN Ministries International, also protested that city's swingers' club. (No, it wasn't a gay swingers club, but swinging is apparently a sin, even if it's the old-fashioned hetero kind. But they also preached during a gay pride event on a park....basically, wherever there are a bunch of gay dudes, you're likely to find Grisham and his followers, which is in no way suggestive of anything at all). "This is not about the Mayor personally," Grisham says, no doubt bringing some relief to Annise Parker. "It's not about personality, it's about principle. The election of an [openly] homosexual person to a major public office brings with it a radical homosexual agenda. That in and of itself makes a statement."
