"I pledge not to donate to the Democratic National Committee, Organizing for America, or the Obama campaign until Congress passes, and the president signs, legislation enacting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT), and repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)."
Gay Activists and bloggers JOHN ARAVOSIS and JOE SUDBAY from AMERICAblog.com are less than pleased with the Democratic National Party and its head, President Barack Obama. So displeased in fact, that they have launched a campaign to ensure that the DNC and the President get the message by having LGBT voters deny the party financial donations until the three major issues listed above in the pledge have been dealt with.
According to ADVOCATE.COM veteran White House Correspondent Kerry Eleveld;
“Take The Pledge: Don’t Ask, Don’t Give” is the product of anger over what the site’s creators, John Aravosis and Joe Sudbay, see as a lack of action on LGBT issues by the Obama Administration and the Democratic Party. Specifically, the site is asking activists to suspend donations until three goals are met: passage of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act, repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, and repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell.”
On the site, ARAVOSIS and SUDBAY state:
Hope, but verify. We have great hope for our President, our party, and our future. But, we have to verify that the President and the Democratic Party are keeping their promises before continuing our open-ended support. It's that simple. This is our time. We cannot let injustice continue to fester while those with the power to help millions sit idly by.
Eleveld continues;
The campaign comes on the heels of a public feud that played out last week between Aravosis and the openly gay treasurer of the DNC, Andy Tobias. In a blog entry, [ Here ] that spurred nearly 300 comments, Aravosis detailed a mailing from the DNC that urged Mainers to vote last Tuesday but failed to mention or take sides on the state's marriage referendum. He also cited emails sent out by OFA urging Mainers to phone bank for New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine’s reelection campaign.
Calls & e-mails to the DNC for comment on the ADVOCATE.COM article and the blog entries were not returned nor answered.
