By Brody Levesque (Bethesda, Maryland) Oct 17 | There are a lot of unhappy folk among California's conservative voters apparently. For example, Randy Thomasson, President 0f SaveCalifornia.com has released a public statement calling California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's signing SB 572 into law establishing Harvey Milk Day, a moral outrage, a slap in the face of families and children. He didn't stop there;
“Harvey Milk was a sexual predator of teens, an advocate of polygamous relationships, a public liar, and is in no way a good role model for impressionable schoolchildren,” said Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com. “Sadly, children in public schools will now have even more in-your-face, homosexual-bisexual-transsexual indoctrination. This provides the strongest impetus yet for loving parents to remove their children from anti-family public schools.’Harvey Milk Day’ teaches children as young as five years old to admire the life and values of the notorious homosexual activist Harvey Milk” said Thomasson. “The ‘suitable commemorative exercises’ that are part of ‘Harvey Milk Day’ can easily result in cross-dressing exercises, ‘LGBT pride’ parades and mock gay weddings on school campuses — everything Harvey Milk supported.”Then of course, the other piece of legislation that legally recognises LGBT marriages performed in other states in California brought this response:
“California voters are reaping what they have sowed. In 2003 when he was first elected, Schwarzenegger was on record supporting giving all the rights of marriage to homosexuals (later he flipped and now supports homosexual “marriage” licenses too); he supported homosexual couples adopting children; and he had posed nude in a homosexual magazine in his body-building years.A couple years ago, he hired a homosexual activist, Susan Kennedy, as his chief of staff. Now, by signing SB 54, which recognizes out-of-state homosexual “marriages” in clear violation of Prop. 8, Schwarzenegger supports the ENTIRE homosexual-bisexual-transsexual agenda, just like Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom do.”
This is just not a case of sour grapes either unfortunately. Thomasson has powerful political ties to the California Republican Party as well as deep pockets courtesy of ultra right political & religious action groups. He is sketching out his vision for 'platform' issues that ultimately will be aired in the upcoming Californian 2010 Governor's, as well as Congressional election campaign races.
What is more troublesome is that Thomasson reflects the overall attitude of the state's more conservative voters and a majority of them who are not only upset at Sacramento for the present budget crisis, are now feeling additional pressure from people like Thomasson to express their outrage at what is perceived as an attack on families and children.
By portraying Harvey as a sexual predator, the message becomes one of 'we must save our families from the evil homosexuals who are determined to prey on our kids.' This becomes a rallying point and this type of erroneous hate speech suddenly becomes deeply ingrained into the campaigns as truth. Sooner or later, the unspoken point becomes that California is in deep financial trouble because it is morally corrupt and by all means please blame the homosexual lobby and LGBT friendly politicians for it.
That will resonate with the conservative voting bloc in California and will prove to be a major headache for both sides as anti-gay rhetoric will eventually heat up in these 2010 campaigns.
The bottom line is that this is purely hate speech, and cannot nor should not be condoned by either party.

I've always wondered how one can seduce a teenager into being gay. As a gay teenager I really wanted to be able to do that with the boy I fell for when he and I were 13, but it was impossible. But, if it were possible, since he and I were the same age, then surely it would have happened? We didn't even mess around. he was not able to be seduced in any way whatsoever.
The reverse is also true. As a gay man I married a beautiful and feminine lady. Ok, you can all stop gasping. It happens. And love crosses boundaries of sex and orientation. It's a good marriage. We have a fine son.
But, and here's the thing, despite the fact that we have a full marriage in all respects, she has not ever been able to seduce me into being heterosexual. I am not now, nor have I ever been either heterosexual nor bisexual.
So it can't be possible, can it?
So there can be no substance to this "Milk was a sexual predator" crap, can there? Except, of course, you cannot libel the dead.
