By Brody Levesque (Washington D. C.) Aug17 | Originally I had started this blog based on the fact I got pestered to death, by well meaning friends and colleagues, insistent that I needed to contribute my voice to the rather crowded cacophonous symphony in the blogosphere. "Brody, you need to contribute your views!" They pleaded and harangued me relentlessly. I sighed and gave in and oh, here is where I need to admit to being way behind on 'trends' and also venues of modern communications that others seem to take to almost immediately. ( I still do not have a Twitter account for example. ) Fine so off I went. I read, I signed up, I signed in, and then was at a complete loss for words or even ideas as to what I should publish on here. 'Now what? What do I say?' At loss for words, me? Pretty funny for a journalist eh? I surfed for items that caught my eye and in some instances just screamed to be highlighted and reposted.
Now, the theory here was based on a statement written in a novel I'd read that I thought was not only clever, but dead on point: “ No data speaks for itself, Data just lies there. People speak. The idiom 'speaks for itself' almost always translates as 'If I don't say something about this, no one will notice it.' “ I could live with that or so I thought..."
I went merrily tripping along trying to find a singular purpose for my blog, and also spending a lot of time perusing the blogs of others, including the professional blogs in my chosen career of journalism, to capture those bits of 'data' and highlight them.
Then, recently, I made an interesting discovery, I had folks that were interested not only in my “republishing” efforts but also wanted to hear from me. Wow, that made me feel good...for about 30 seconds until I realised that I had to entertain, inform, and make a difference, and post more original articles. Okay that, that certainly was a sobering thought.
So here I am in mid August, months later still stumbling along. I have overhauled the layout of the blog to be more clear, concise, and hopefully easier on the eye. Starting this week, I will have a series of articles that I am writing that I hope will not only stimulate you but be edifying as well. If not, one could always line the bottom of the hamster cage with them... oh wait...electronic digital, yeah, sorry not possible eh?
