By Brody Levesque (Washington D. C.) Aug 15th | On a very typically hot, humid, and generally nasty August day here in Washington D. C., I found a cheerful, beautifully masculine, shirtless young man in the middle of the park that surrounds the DuPont Circle fountain painting away. Surrounding his easel were Giclee reproductions of his oils printed on canvas. I stopped to admire his work, which was rather good, and as I commented upon that fact to him, he broke into a smile that could only be described as infectious and filled with warmth.
He told me that his name was William, and that he'd been painting since he was twelve years old and then he paused, grinned, and then said that; "so, yeah its been like 9 years now." Okay, I quickly did the math and placed him at the ripe old age of 22 or thereabouts. I asked if he'd been to a school for the arts and his response was quite brilliant. "No, I kinda taught myself, I mean, why should I have someone teach me to paint what I see through my eyes? That doesn't make any sense." Upon further reflection. I'd have to agree as his talent is formidable and precise. As I perused the Giclee reproductions in front of me, he showed me a recently finished untitled original piece.

The work was of a bare chested young lady in a flowing multicoloured skirt standing in a barren landscape of a parking lot that Will identified as being in the city of Baltimore. With no uncertain amount of pride and undertones of love, he told me that the attractive young model was his wife, who in an aside, is currently thirty nine weeks pregnant. It was a carefully crafted and well executed work.
I told young Will that in the very near future I was going to ask him, and his wife, if they'd acquiesce to a formal interview as there was just something about this young artist that struck me. A hunch possibly? But then, please, by all means visit Will's website and see for yourself.
In the meantime, if you see a beautiful young man with an infectious grin wielding a paint brush in DuPont Circle, please stop and admire his work and have a conversation with him. I promise that you'll not be disappointed.
