I was sent a short clip of this film for my review and was astonished to find that not only was it not a typical “coming of age/coming to terms” portrayal, it held good cinematic qualities. I honestly enjoyed this small production that came from this very talented young filmmaker from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
As a journalist, I tend to be a bit harsh as a critic. Now, having said that, I must point out that my area of expertise is in Political coverage, not the fine arts. As I am a prototypical popcorn munching consumer when it comes to film, I am very selective in what I desire to view, particularly when dealing with LGBT themes. In fact, the last LGBT film I saw was Gus Van Zant's “MILK.”
I honestly do not enjoy a great majority of LGBT themed films as they are either way too “campy” or replay and retread the same ground over and over again, which I feared was going to be the case with “JAMES.” It was not and I was very pleased.
A wise man once said that ; "The Irish always have their priorities in life right," and such is definitely the case with this film.
Here's a link to the filmmaker's website, there is an Apple Quicktime short available there for review:

Please go take a look and order this film, I promise that you will not be disappointed.
