As colleges and universities all over the United States make their final preparations for the return of students, Charlotte, North Carolina, based Campus Pride & ancillary sister organization Stop The Hate, are gearing up their annual campaign drive to spread the word to LGBT youth attending college about their programs/resources on campuses nationwide.

What is Campus Pride? Here is the excerpt from their 'About us' web-page:

"Campus Pride represents the only national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create a safer college environment for LGBT students. The organization is a volunteer-driven network "for" and "by" student leaders. The primary objective of Campus Pride is to develop necessary resources, programs and services to support LGBT and ally students on college campuses across the United States.

Founded in the Fall of 2001 and launched a year later in October of 2002, Campus Pride started as an online community and resource clearinghouse under the name Campus PrideNet. The original founding partners were M. Chad Wilson, Sarah E. Holmes & Shane L. Windmeyer. In 2006, the organization broadened its outreach efforts and restructured as the current educational non-profit organization Campus Pride. As part of the restructuring process, the Lambda 10 Project for LGBT Fraternity & Sorority Issues (www.lambda10.org) became an educational initiative of Campus Pride. The executive director is national LGBT civil rights leader and campus pioneer Shane L. Windmeyer."

Campus Pride's stated mission is to serve the LGBT youth and Ally student leaders and, or campus organizations in the areas of leadership development, support programs and services to create safer, mor
e inclusive LGBT-friendly colleges and universities. It exists to develop, support and give “voice and action” in building future LGBT and ally student leaders. To further assist in this effort in a key & critical component of an issue that affects all LGBT college students, bias/hate of LGBT folk, is the mission of their sister program:

" The Stop The Hate program reflects our commitment to provide social justice tools for combating bias and hate crimes in all its forms. Stop The Hate is dedicated to provide the necessary resources and educational training to combat hate on college campuses; and to actively seek partnerships and collaboration among various organizations with similar concerns to address bias and hate behaviors. "

College age youth and their families can contact both organizations via these websites: Campus Pride.org & Stop The Hate.org
