Brody's Notes... The Family Acceptance Project

By Joe Jervis (New York, New York) DEC 6 | The Family Acceptance Project works to help "diverse families understand how to support their LGBT children." Here's one of their touching training videos. (There's a donation button at the link if you'd like to support their work.)

I have a simple donation, Joe. It is something for parents to think about and to say to their child:

If you are a parent and love your child, have you said to them this simple thing: "Some people fall for girls, some for boys. If you come home with a girlfriend or a boyfriend, we will love you just the same, and we hope we will like them. But the most important thing for us is that you are happy."

Remove the power of the bullies by showing your child how much you love them. Say this to them now, today. They need to be assured of your love.

The life you save may be your own child's.

As much as I admire the "it gets better" idea, I find this video (and the concept of such videos) more in tune with what I think is needed.

Yes, we need to support anyone who feels totally as if nothing will change, but this video addresses the 'perpetrators', if you will, by showing them how to actually fix things.

It is more than a reassurance that things will get better, it is a prescription to actually making things better.
